How will you make an impact?

The Legal Applications Software Engineer within the Legal Operations team will play a pivotal role in transforming complex legal processes utilizing technology across all Groups and Divisions. Leveraging your expertise in AI technologies, the Legal Applications Software Engineer will distill vast amounts of Legal department data into accessible, user-friendly solutions. This role uniquely combines technical proficiency with strategic insight, offering a significant opportunity to impact our organization's efficiency and future direction.

What will you do?

As a Legal Applications Software Engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific, the role will involve a unique blend of technical development work and strategic operational planning. The Legal Applications Software Engineer will collaborate with the Sr. Manager, Legal Operations, various members of the Legal department, and Generative AI team with the primary responsibility being the development and maintenance of applications that leverage artificial intelligence to boost efficiency within the Legal department. The engineer will contribute to various stages of the development cycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring for the company’s Generative Artificial Intelligence initiatives all around the goal of making the Legal department more efficient. Additionally, the engineer will play a key role in Power BI development, data analytics and data presentation. The role requires both independent critical thinking and collaboration with a diverse team of Software Engineers and Legal Operations specialists. Additionally, the Full Stack Engineer will have the opportunity to present their results to key stakeholders within the organization, offering a unique blend of technical work and strategic communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Be the main liaison for the Legal Department to bring concepts and ideas to life within AI applications.

  • Take concepts and ideas from the legal department and develop applications from both supervised and unsupervised data to increase efficiency and productivity.

  • Develop and maintain AWS Lex based chatbots for the Legal department.

  • Demonstrate the ability to execute projects on time and successfully manage multiple assignments at once.

  • Communicate with appropriate level of technical know-how based on the knowledge of customer.

  • Work with existing Legal Applications to bring third party AI solutions into practice.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience on full stack development

  • 2+ years of solid hands with OOP (Java and/or Python) strongly preferred

  • 1+ years of solid hands with Angular, React, or similar technologies strongly preferred

  • 1+ years with AWS Cloud Services such as S3, CloudFront, EKS, RDS, CloudWatch

  • Experience using Github

  • Strong Test-Driven Development (TDD) mindset

  • Power BI and DAX coding experience preferred

  • Self-motivated with a keen interest in staying updated with the latest AI trends and technologies

  • Strong drive to solve problems through learning, debugging, and troubleshooting

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, multi-task with good follow-through skills and communicate effectively

  • Ability to work well in a team as well as alone to accomplish tasks without supervision

Education:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or equivalently technical disciplines required
