Job Posting Title: Applications Scientist - Proteomics

How will you make an impact?

This opening is for a highly qualified and self-motivated individual to support our latest generation LC-MS instrumentation as a lab-based Application Scientist. As a member of the Thermo Fisher Scientific North Americas application support team, the candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary matrix team that includes sales representatives, marketing and service professionals, product development scientists, and engineers. Primary responsibilities will be to support the commercial field sales team by providing support for Thermo Fisher Scientific's product offerings, focusing mainly on proteomics applications with occasional biopharma applications. Additional responsibilities will include providing pre-sales support to our LSMS sales team both virtually and at customer sites to position them for successful wins.

What will you do?

  • Conduct and lead LCMS product demonstrations showcasing Thermo Scientific’s newest generation of mass spectrometry products (hybrid and tribrid Orbitrap technology).

  • Provide pre- and post-sales technical support as well as applications assistance in response to customer inquiries (both internal and external), including education, training, and occasional on-site visits.

  • Develop new applications applying Thermo Scientific LCMS offerings, including writing application notes, peer reviewed publications, and presenting at the appropriate scientific conferences.

  • Connect with customers in a professional manner.

  • Build well-organized information-rich tools (documents and seminars) and effectively deliver them in an engaging manner.

  • Combine conceptual and analytical knowledge to independently address difficult problems.

  • Independently prioritize projects and manage behavior to most effectively accomplish core job functions.

How will you get here?

  • 5+ years of proteomics experience with a Master’s degree is required or 2+ years with a PhD is preferred. Time in industry with a BS degree will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A total of 3+ years of hands-on LCMS experience.

  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative proteomics LCMS workflows (e.g. label free quantitation, TMT, PTM analysis and discovery proteomics).

  • This position requires extensive contact with customers and therefore outstanding verbal and written communication skills are required.

  • A consistent record to work independently and a strong work ethic is critical.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% within North America.
