Thermo Fisher Scientific Manager, Logistics in San Francisco, California

How will you make an impact?

Responsible for building and maximizing Logistics efficiency and effectiveness to meet the demands of a new and rapidly growing manufacturing operation. The scope of this position includes the building, development, optimization, and execution of plans and strategies related to effective logistics and warehouse management for the organization. Analyzing and coordinating the storage, distribution, and transportation of goods from manufacturing facilities to final destinations. An important aspect of this role is effectively maximizing performance through continuous process improvements. This function supports the organization's business strategies that impact the business unit and overall company results.

What will you do?

  • Responsible to develop business processes for the sites warehouse that meets short to mid-term (1-3 years) operational planning requirements for logistics.

  • Provide leadership through the hiring of qualified candidates, coordinating, training, mentoring, supervising, monitoring, cross-functional training, and evaluating work assignments that support department goals and objectives.

  • Develop, analyze, and maintain KPI's/metrics and reports to identify current state of Logistics and drive the implementation of transition plans to achieve the desired state.

  • Work cross-functionally with other functional areas.

  • Evaluate current and potential storage conditions and maintain general housekeeping to meet corporate governance and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Direct, manage, and coordinate logistics, warehouse, transportation, inventory management, shipping, receiving, production support, special projects, and strategy.

  • Oversee the inventory management process of daily cycle counts, full physical inventory, posting, tolerances, variances, and investigate significant variances using root cause analysis (RCA) tools, and develop corrective action preventative action plans (CAPA's).

  • Write, develop, train, and implement depart Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).

  • Manage chemical inventories to meet storage limits and support all EH&S requirements.

  • Provide reliable, efficient, and compliant warehousing operations for the receipt, sampling, safe storage, on-site transfer and off-site disposal of materials, trash, and hazardous waste.

  • Develop and administer preventative maintenance programs for material handling equipment.

  • Define and ensure corrective actions resulting from inspections.

How will you get here?

  • BS in Business Administration, Logistics, or Supply Chain preferred.

  • 8 years experience in a logistics or supply chain setting required.

  • 8 years management experience in supply chain, materials management, or logistics required.

  • 5 years experience in Pharmaceutical/Biopharmaceutical or related industry required.

  • Strong proficiency with an ERP system (preferably SAP) required or other logistics software.

  • ISM, APICS, CSCMP Certification, degree in Logistics Management/ Supply Chain is a plus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Requires solid business and functional knowledge of Logistics Management/Supply Chain disciplines

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma principles, and 5S

  • Sound knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Proven ability to think independently and handle multiple projects through to completion.

  • Must be detail oriented, organized, and insure follow-up in a very timely manner.

  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical/problem solving and communication skills.

  • Strong Project Management Skills.

  • Hazardous Materials (Certification: IATA and 49CFR)

  • Adhere to OHS policies and procedures and ensure a safe and healthy workplace environment

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

  • Ability to inspire and foster innovation, collaboration, transparency, and team effectiveness.

  • Able to make effective presentations to diverse groups

  • Able to perform financial calculations; create, manage, and achieve budgets
