Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic to join our team as a Staff Scientist, Protein Biology. In this Research role, you will have the exceptional opportunity to work on innovative projects in mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects in support of new product development and evaluation of new technology for proteomics sample preparation and quantitation MS.

  • Serve as Technical Leader on R&D project teams to develop reagents, assays, and kits that support MS reagents.

  • Collaborate across different teams for novel workflow solutions.

  • Act as an in-house expert on MS reagents focus area including proteomics sample prep and automation.

  • Makes proposals to upper management and advises on technology issues.

  • Effectively communicates results to project team members, senior leadership and internal partners.

  • Works with R&D Manager and Product Management to set the scientific direction for the company by building business/technical case analyses for new products and programs.

  • Supports other departments such as manufacturing, technical service, and ASL by providing scientific mentorship

  • Begins to identify and initiate Business Development and Technology Transfer activities.

  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of MS sample prep, automation, quantitative proteomics, and other relevant proteomics fields.

  • Collaborates with technical and commercial partners.

  • Independently writes technical methods for production, testing, and use of new products; produces original communication materials for internal and external audiences.

  • Attends scientific conferences and presents work through posters tutorials, talks, and publications.

  • Gives effective scientific presentations to diverse audience.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding and experience with protein biochemistry, MS sample preparation techniques, quantitative proteomics, LC/MS-based method development, and data processing.

  • Ability to work independently and lead research into innovative MS-based workflows and assays.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with experience working in a matrix organization and with external customers.

  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.

  • Excellent organization and analytics skills.

  • Networks within and outside of area of expertise; influences stakeholders, and represents the company in interactions with external customers and collaborators.

  • PhD with 2+ years of experience, MS degree with demonstrated ability, or BS with proven experience.

  • Experience with proteomics workflow using the Thermo Scientific LC/MS systems and software.

  • Experience in product development and/or project management.
