Location/Division Specific Information

Within the Customer Channels Group, the Research and Safety Market Division (RSD), represented by the Fisher Scientific brand, is a several billion dollar global division which markets and sells a vast portfolio of laboratory and safety-related products and services to its key customer base around the world that includes Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Academic, Industrial, and Government organizations. As a provider of a broad portfolio of products and services, RSD transacts with and represents the product lines of thousands of industry-leading suppliers/manufacturers in the laboratory and clean-room space, both internal and external to Thermo Fisher.

How will you make an impact?

The Director PPI Business System will be part of a global team designed to facilitate implementation of the PPI Business System within and across specified functional groups in the Customer Channels Group. This position will reside in North America and partner with functional, regional, global, and group leaders. Leveraging project management expertise and tools/knowledge of the PPI Business System to support and execute or lead continuous improvement efforts or strategic initiatives is a key responsibility of this position.

Successful execution will require partnership and the ability to drive results and engagement across the entire organization – potentially globally as well. Focus will be on delivering sustainable results to enable profitable growth, intensifying the customer experience, and increasing employee engagement to delivery sustainable results.

What will you do?

  • Develop and facilitate STRAP in alignment with company goals.

  • Cascade STRAP goals through to execution at the appropriate levels using strategy deployment, Parent A3s, Project A3s and TTI Bowlers.

  • Executing large strategic cross functional initiatives where needed.

  • Responsible for facilitating/enabling the implementation of the PPI Business System across the division and functions.

  • Lead/work with functional teams to streamline processes to improve the customer experience, enable profitable growth, and increase efficiency.

  • Provide support to develop lean expertise and capability within the organization at all levels.

  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement to improve KPIs, in the areas of customer, finance, people and quality.

  • Provides PPI Business System Program support through program governance, project traceability, pipeline building and productivity savings tracking and reporting. Utilize consistent tools and templates and other governance mechanisms as needed.

  • Improve the decision-making model and problem solving capabilities within high performance teams to increase autonomy and the pace of change.

  • Work closely with business leadership to identify ways to accelerate the culture change necessary to support the PPI Business System.

  • Mature KPI Leadership by coaching senior leaders on KPI and Bowler development as well as RCCM usage and actions as needed to transform the culture across CCG / RSD.

  • Provide ongoing PPI Business System support to multiple teams or subprojects as directed.

  • Work with the expanded team to develop/promote/standardize the PPI Business System further.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Operations or relevant business related field


  • Ten (10+) years of experience as a Continuous Improvement ‘Expert’ with a ‘hands-on’ track record of implementing successful Business System based tools, systems, methodologies including:

  • Strategic planning and strategy deployment

  • Program and/or Project Management expertise

  • KPI Leadership and Lean Leadership (Daily Accountability, Visual Management, Leader Standard Work, and Gemba Walks).

  • Proven success in implementing continuous improvement tools and methodologies (i.e. PPI Business System, Lean Six Sigma, Agile, Business Transformation, Process Re-engineering, or another proven improvement methodology.)

  • Broad knowledge and experience of multi-functional, multi-site, global organizational processes and financial business methods.

  • Proven track record for developing, training, and coaching teams.

  • Effective communicator and facilitator including solid written, oral and presentation-giving skills.

  • Proven expertise through certification in one or more relevant areas (i.e. PPI Business System PM, LSS GB/BB, CPSM, CPIM, CSCP, CLTD, PMP, Prince2)

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed, up to 50% if needed.
