Location/Division

The Chemical Analysis Division (CAD) provides a broad mix of analytical instruments and services to a diverse range of end-user markets including Safety & Security, Environmental, Food Safety, Life Sciences, Medical, Energy, Spectroscopy and Minerals and Mining. Its instruments are deployed globally in the field and on the line, in results-oriented environments where customers put a premium on adaptability, reliability and ease of use. CAD operates within a global footprint with more than 4,000 colleagues, delivering product solutions to customers that allow for confident, on-the-spot decision-making. The position supports the Production and Process Analytics business unit.

  • Clean Energy (battery manufacture & minerals production),

  • Food Safety (Product inspection and food packaging), and

  • Infrastructure (cement, mining & metals).

Discover Impactful Work:

In your role as a Service Technician, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive services on Spectroscopy instruments, specifically OES, XRF, and XRD. These services will encompass installation, repairs, preventative maintenance, and instrument qualifications. You will report directly to the Regional Service Manager. In addition to working with our customers, you will also regularly engage with other team members, sales, technical support, and engineering.

  • Perform on-site installation, repair, maintenance, qualification, and validation of supported equipment systems.

  • Use customer management software to supervise service calls, manage parts inventories, and complete job tasks.

  • Inspect malfunctioning products, analyze inspection findings to determine source of problem, and recommends repair, replacement, or other corrective action.

  • Serve as a vital communication link between the customer and the company.

  • Develop and conduct training on the safe operations of the equipment and demonstrates skills to trainees, including both team members and customers.

A day in the Life:

We provide onsite customer support and service for Web and Metals Measurement systems (https://www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/industrial/manufacturing-processing/online-non-contact-measurement-gauges/metals-online-coating-weight-thickness-measurement.html) . This equipment (https://www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/industrial/manufacturing-processing/online-non-contact-measurement-gauges/metals-online-coating-weight-thickness-measurement.html) measures weight and thickness of raw paper, plastics, steel and aluminum in the production facilities around the world. This requires 75%-100% of travel in the USA ( Houston, Dallas/DFW, TX & nationwide )(weekend travel is rare but may be required). Must also be available to work a flexible work schedule to support a 24/7 service operation.

Primary responsibility is the overall service of an assigned customer list.

  • Ensuring customer happiness by going above and beyond

  • Coordinates long term and short-term planning for maintenance, and repair events with manufacturing and management. Key Player in presenting downtime, maintenance needs, and prioritization.

  • System installation services

  • General Maintenance at customer sites as required.

Keys to Success:

Minimum education and experience requirement

  • High school diploma and 4+ years hands-on experience as a Field Service Engineer, particularly working with analytical instrumentation. Working experience with equipment is a strong plus or Bachelor’s degree in Sciences, Engineering or related field with 0 years’ experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Customer-centric and business-focused

  • Technical knowledge of scientific equipment or related technology based equipment.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to establish good customer rapport are essential.

  • Ability to prioritize service requests and produce clear and concise documentation

  • Ability to work independently within a customer location. Minimal direct supervision required.

Travel & Physical/Environmental requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 70% at times within the territory or other areas as the need arises.

  • Physical activities: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions.

  • Ability to safely lift 50 Lbs. with assistance on occasion, and safely lift and carry 25-30 Lbs. continuously throughout the day.

  • Environmental conditions: Inside office environment conditions, travel by taxi, train, airplane, noise, hazards, & conditions at customer locations.

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
