Within the Materials and Structural Analysis Division the Beam Technology Group is responsible for smooth introduction of new products into the factory and field. This team collaborates closely with Product Life Cycle Management (PLM), Product Marketing, R&D, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Quality, and Global Technical Support (GTS) groups within ThermoFisher Scientific to ensure development of sustainable products according to the latest quality standards, at the lowest possible COGS and in line with best practices. They are also responsible for Sustaining Product support after transfer from design to volume production through the product end of life. This role collaborates closely with other internal groups to sustain products and define product and process improvements throughout the entire product life cycle.

Summary:

The Lead Manufacturing Engineering Technician is the first line of response for manufacturing to engineering facing activities to ensure Quality and On Time Delivery, OTD, and Project targets are met. The Lead Manufacturing Engineering Technician will be located on the clean-room floor and will be the primary point of contact for any ion column and eGun assembly/test engineering actions or escalations. The Lead Manufacturing Engineering Technician will report directly to the Production Manager, matrix to the Engineering Manager, and will take direction from the applicable operation engineers for their day to day activities and tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides tactical assistance and escalation support for FIB and EGUN assembly and test as directed by Operations Engineering.

  • Assists operations engineers on both improvement and new product projects as they transition from concept through release according to PMP and MDP process. Responsible for completing all deliverables assigned to Operations Engineering.

  • Assists in the training of Manufacturing personnel in new product build, existing product improvements, testing, install and repair procedures. May develop advanced troubleshooting procedures under the guidance of Operations Engineering personnel.

  • May provide input or execute engineering changes to support factory production as needed to achieve yield and cost goals.

  • May provide input or execute engineering changes to support factory and service as needed.

  • May help develop and maintain technical product and process documentation through ECO process as directed.

  • Provide design inputs for tools and test fixtures as needed to support and improve factory capabilities. Work with operations engineers to determine needed improvements and help with the engineering and implementation.

  • Provide technical support to the factory, to ensure shipping of quality products on-time to customers.

  • Help with the training and implementation of new methodologies such as ‘clean way to work.’

  • Support the supply chain with engineering expertise. This includes the completion of First Articles, analysis of parts for reliability, manufacturability, vendor qualification support and supplier technical quality issues as directed by engineering.

General requirements

  • University degree in a technical discipline, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills

  • Willingness to work in high-tech industry manufacturing environment.

  • Must demonstrate ability to create technical documentation and engineering reports using common Microsoft Office and Acrobat applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of cross-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites.

  • Must be able to work for extended period in clean room environment.

  • Must have a professional working proficiency in written and spoken English.

  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience participating or managing concurrent technical assignments.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear and concise analysis of data and experimental methods that may involve multiple factors.

  • Self-starter who is also highly productive when not supervised to meet the agreed objectives.

  • Must function as a productive team member at all times.

  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in peer to peer interaction as well as in networking with senior internal and external personnel in own expertise area.
