Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific has an exciting opportunity for an experienced intellectual property attorney to join its Biosciences Division. The Biosciences Division is uniquely diverse and offers over 100,000 products and services, ranging from complex instruments and reagents for protein & cell analysis, cell biology, cell & gene therapy, sample preparation and molecular biology, to customers in the biotech, pharmaceutical, healthcare, and academic industries.

This position will primarily support BID’s Sample Preparation and Protein & Cell Analysis businesses. The role will entail building and supplementing a robust IP portfolio based on in-house developed solutions, as well as in-licensed and/or acquired assets. The successful candidate will work on a variety of legal matters, including freedom-to-operate analyses, licensing, IP-related contracts, oppositions and other patent challenges, and dispute resolution.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal and strategic IP guidance to business management, R&D, and other functional organizational leadership;

  • Facilitate complex licensing, collaboration, technology transfer agreements;

  • Advise and educate internal clients regarding IP-related issues, including new developments in patent and trade secret laws and policies;

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of competitor and industry IP portfolios; manage and improve processes for tracking innovations and competitor IP activity;

  • Navigate freedom-to-operate issues; and

  • Conduct employee training sessions on the protection of innovations through the patent process, best practices for maintaining confidential business information, and the overall development of intellectual property assets

Requirements:

  • Proven track record of leading IP legal teams
