Job Description


Manages, plans, leads and controls the activities necessary for Sterile Filling Operations to meet the safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and people needs of the business. Ensures compliance with standards, that supervisors and operations personnel are well-trained for their job duties, and that operations are run in an efficient, effective and high-quality manner.

Essential Functions:

Provides leadership to assigned staff by performing the following: leading organizational change; developing and empowering staff; cultivating relationships; putting staff in a position to succeed, meeting their personal career goals while also achieving organizational goals; building effective teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals; driving engagement and creating a climate where staff are motivated to do their best.

Works with existing customers and new potential customers to execute the strategic plan and grow the business.

Establishes direction for the department by developing goals that support organization and company objectives and strategies.

Supports the company’s safety program to maximize safety awareness and provide a safe work environment. Complies with all job-related safety and other training requirements.

Ensures GMP compliance and meets requirements of the site’s quality systems. Responsible for area compliance in the face of FDA, QAT, and OSHA inspections.

Facilitates problem-solving sessions with cross-functional teams to resolve business issues.

Ensures production efficiencies are monitored and action taken to lower variable standard costs.

Manages staff (operations, maintenance, mechanics, etc.) ensuring that these groups are adequately trained, motivated, and developed, and that responsibility and accountability are assigned at the proper levels.

Manages the administrative aspects of the group by ensuring the preparation of performance plans, job descriptions, and conducting employee performance reviews. Includes hiring, rewarding, and disciplining staff as required; providing direction for professional development; maintaining an environment that fosters teamwork; and assigning responsibility and accountability at proper levels.

Prepares expense and headcount budgets. Ensures budget targets are met while providing production operations with adequate resources in facilities, equipment, and personnel to meet customer demands. Establishes/approves the technical requirements for production documentation including equipment and systems specifications, manufacturing formulas, POMS procedures, filling and packaging work orders, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Environmental Procedures, PM’s, etc.

Manages filling operations by directing the production activities on daily basis. Ensures scheduled activities are performed as planned. Using input from Operations Planning, plans, schedules, and executes production workload to ensure product availability when demanded, while maintaining product inventory at its lowest level.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Scope:

Provides tactical direction and immediate supervision to a group of employees by assigning tasks, checking work, and maintaining schedules.


Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the company. Provides direct supervision and may assist with the work as demands dictate.


Bachelor’s degree in Physical, Biological, Chemical, or Pharmaceutical related sciences is preferred.


Seven years of relevant sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing experience, including two years in a leadership or supervisory position is preferred.

Equivalency :

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.


Familiarity with a variety of concepts, practices and procedures. Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills. Self-starter, mature, independent and dependable. Ability to work in a fast paced environment under pressure, able to multi-task and is results-oriented. Demonstrates ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Effective time management and prioritization skills. Requires discretion and independent judgment. Very high degree of interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public, including tact to handle sensitive matters. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 20-50 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
