Job Description


Provides leadership to Pharmaceutical Development Service (PDS) Analytical Development (AD). Ensures that all activities in the group are performed according to a set schedule and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and corporate quality standards.

Essential Functions:

Provides leadership to assigned staff by performing the following: leading organziational change; developing and empowering staff; cultivating relationships; putting staff in a position to succeed; meeting their personal career goals while also achieving organizational goals; building effective teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals; driving engagement and creating a climate where staff are motivated to do their best. Leads development and coordination of realistic proposals and timelines. Leads meetings/teleconferences with clients. Leads development of methods and processes that meet or exceed the expectations from clients and provide innovation as necessary. Leads research of industry practices and processes and applies to innovative drug development internally and for client products. Presents recommendations internally and to clients. Leads a team and manages team's project timelines and deliverables; may review group's financials. Guides and advises during implementation of new methodologies and processes. Leads resolution of problems related to the conduct of chemical experiments. Liaises with internal scientific, analytical, and laboratory functional areas to meet project and team objectives. Performs all duties in strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices and Safety guidelines. Maintains the necessary compliance status required by company and facility standards. Performs other duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or related physical science. PhD preferred.


Typically requires 12 years of progressive scientific experience, including 9 years in a related life sciences field. Minimum of 5 years of management experience. If related Master's degree, typically requires 10 years of related experience. If related PhD, typically requires 6 experience. Experience workng directly with clients.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.


  • Proven excellence in the understanding and application of analytical chemistry for meeting product development challenges

  • Experience of managing groups of graduates in the development of analytical procedures

  • Proven ability to train team members to handle analytical development projects within agreed timelines.

  • Ability to apply operational excellence principles within a development environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral, telephonic, and written).

  • Well organized, detail oriented and able to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Understanding of AD software systems that are being applied within modern pharmaceutical companies

  • Excellent working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices

  • Proficiency in the English Language.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pound pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
