Location/Division Specific Information

This position is part of the Materials and Minerals business unit in the Chemical Analysis Division (CAD). The role is based in Franklin, MA.

How will you make an impact?

The Manufacturing Engineer position provides support to value stream through process improvements, driving to root-cause on process, product and component issues, and assists with standardizing assembly processes, tools and assembly aids. This position ensures designs are robust by creating, reviewing, and editing drawings, work instructions, and BOMs as required in an ISO regulated environment. What will you do?

  • Update parts/assemblies and/or drawing modifications.

  • Manage one or more operations projects related to new product introductions, cell lay-out, and large-scale process improvements.

  • Act as the operations liaison in concurrent engineering teams to ensure DFM/DFT needs are communicated and met.

  • Work with the quality engineering team to identify opportunities for improving yields, manage equipment calibration and reducing waste within the value stream.

  • Work with the test engineering team to create test stands and documentation.

  • Use Lean tools such as 5S, Cell Layout, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, poka-yoke, etc.

  • Participate and Lead Kaizen activities.

  • Develop automation and fixtures to reduce product assembly labor and improve employee safety.

  • Conduct Designs of Experiments for analytical Problem Solving.

  • Perform time studies to establish baseline data to drive improvements and measure successes.

  • Execute GR&R testing to qualify new instruments.

  • Create and maintain work instructions, ERP BOMs, ERP Routings and device history records.

  • Writes and approve Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs), Product Release forms, sourcing changes, part and other items as directed by functional procedures.

  • Participate in MRB reviews to help determine and resolve root-cause.

  • This position requires a high degree of interaction with management and employees of all levels within the organization.

  • Regularly interact with R&D, order engineering, marketing, sales, and service personnel.

  • Participate in Factory Acceptances Testing with customers.

  • Work with management to ensure required training is complete and up-to-date.

How will you get here?


  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Manufacturing/Mechanical from an accredited institution


  • 5+ years experience in an engineering role.

  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling.

  • Experience with Lean manufacturing concepts and practices

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Must be able to effectively communicate cross-functionally in a collaborative manner.

  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills.

  • Good knowledge with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio).

  • Ability to mechanically and electrically troubleshoot using caliper, probes and other instrumentation.

  • Good understanding of ERP systems and ability to set product BOM strategy. Mapics experience is a plus.

  • Travel: < 15% annually (domestic and international)
