This role sits on the Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) EM R&D leadership team and is based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, currently our key site for High-end TEM. We are a powered global workforce of nearly 350 passionate specialists (primarily Netherlands, Czechia, and France) jointly developing our next generations of solutions for our customers.

How will you make an impact?

The Portfolio Manager is a key leadership position. It is a global function accountable for defining, aligning, and driving product and module roadmaps that achieve growth strategies of the Life Science, Material Science and Semiconductor Business Units. The TEM Platforms includes various modules and technologies shared among and used by TEM product lines. With a high degree of strategic and operational influence, you coordinate product development strategies, and initiatives with your peers. The peers are linked to each of the 3 business units. The role implies regular coordination and optimized consensus between key members among architects, Business Units, Advanced Technology, and Software organizations.

You are crafting the strategy of platforms and components for effective reuse across our product lines. You are working seamlessly over our teams based in multiple sites and according to our HW / SW development processes. This includes working with development-partners/suppliers.

You will lead your team to combine innovative software and the world’s most successful types of electron microscopes into solutions that solve problems making the world cleaner, healthier and safer. For example, the systems built here today allow biologists to study diseases and craft new drug treatments. Similarly, materials scientists use groundbreaking technology we build to develop everything from lighter, more fuel-efficient aircraft, to the future of long-life batteries in cars and cell phones.

What will you do?

  • Lead and encourage indirectly more than 100 global experts to develop the next generation of groundbreaking products that enable science.

  • Lead and directly encourage 10-15 Integral Project Leaders and many suppliers being used during development.

  • Build an elite team in respect to project execution excellence to consistently deliver new to the world technologies containing hardware and software, in projects of varying size and duration.

  • Own and drive the full TEM Platform Portfolio’s for the 3 different Business Product units, while ensuring maximum efficiency in Service and Operations by driving New Product Introduction and Sustaining activities for a maximum of commonality.

  • Lead, coach and mentor staff (both direct and indirect reports), including resource planning and budgeting, upwards communication and ownership, and professional development to achieve product roadmaps and technology advancement.

  • Develop a TEM technology roadmaps with core and non-core elements well-articulated for the future, containing key technical collaborations, outsourcing of non-key technologies, and strategic supplier account management (technical), including clear dual sourcing strategies where applicable.

  • Managing R&D Sustainability roadmap

  • Provide technical leadership, vision, and strategy, and readily articulate our development direction to team members, peers and senior executives.

  • Collaborate with other business departments to align activities and work we are all doing.

  • Drive extraordinary quality in the development and support of products.

How will you get here?

  • Typically requires +10 years preferred of validated experience in Research & Development, Product Engineering.

  • Typically, a university technical degree is required and a PhD/MBA or other advanced degree is preferred, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrate the required skills.

  • 10+ years of people management experience.

  • Experience running budgets of >$5-20M.
