Position Summary and Key Responsibilities

The Purification Scientist II will perform purification of monoclonal antibodies from hybridoma cultures using primarily affinity chromatography. This person will be an integral part of the Manufacturing department.

Will perform hands on manufacturing tasks and work in accordance with production schedules. Must possess good mathematical skills and provide accurate data documentation. Must be able to adapt and be flexible to a fast-paced manufacturing environment. In a timely and efficient manner, this person can work independently to produce a quality product as well as work well as part of team to implement ideas for continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purification of monoclonal and some polyclonal antibodies.

  • Perform proper and sterile lab techniques.

  • Perform everyday use of general lab equipment (centrifuges, spectrophotometers, pipettes, etc.).

  • Working independently, other duties may include performing ion exchange chromatography, buffer and reagent preparation, SDS Gel Electrophoresis, HPLC, etc.

  • Assist in the transfer of new products, processes and protocols from R&D to Manufacturing; ensure that proper training is given to respective individuals; confirm that protocols are clear and accurate.

  • Initiate and own Problem Reports for planned and unplanned deviations and failures.

  • Accurately document and complete all manufacturing batch records independently.

  • Open change orders to create and revise documentation related to the department.

  • Quickly navigate through laboratory database systems independently.

  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Follow all departmental SOPs, guidelines, and procedures.

  • Escalate issues timely and effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a biological science (focus on biochemistry is preferred); 3 – 5 years of professional experience in a related field, preferably manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Purification Scientist II should possess qualities in a variety of areas:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products with emphasis on Excel, Outlook and Word

  • Excellent communication (written and oral) skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with protein A/G purification and affinity chromatography.

  • Strong understanding of GLP and GMP processes and documentation.

  • Well organized, detail oriented and multitasking.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Highly motivated and dedicated individual.
