Thermo Fisher Scientific Formulation Scientist I in Bend, Oregon
Assists formulators and engineers within the Formulation and Process Development (FPD) group with the design of processes and equipment for clinical, scale up, and/or registration batches, including technology transfer of projects to and from other development or commercial sites. Ability to perform routine troubleshooting on process equipment. Investigates, validates, and may contribute to new scientific methodologies on projects of moderate scope
Independently assembles, disassembles, operates and cleans process equipment such as spray dryers, tablet presses, mills, granulators, roller compactors, fluid beds, hot melt extruders, and blenders.
Performs routine physical characterization of products. (e.g. powder and tablet characterization)
Documents the formulation and process results in lab notebooks consistent with company policy and good laboratory practices.
Tabulates, documents, and interprets processing data.
Assists in troubleshooting of process-related issues.
Assists with the cleanliness of equipment, work areas and facility.
Performs general maintenance on research & development (R&D) process and laboratory equipment, as needed.
Organizes and maintains process critical materials and equipment.
Bachelor’s degree in physical science, chemistry, chemical science, material science, engineering, or related field required.
Two years of technical experience in the pharmaceutical industry required.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Good knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and experience with cGMP documentation, spreadsheets and software applications preferred. Pharma or biotech experience required. Proven track record of producing an excellent work product with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to multi-task and handle shifting priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel). Effective written and interpersonal skills.
Work setting: formulations and process development of pharmaceutical dosage forms in an R&D laboratory and small-scale manufacturing setting. Position requires frequent standing (up to 8 hours) as well as ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office, laboratory & manufacturing locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of medium to heavy weights of 35-50 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and move for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate laboratory equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
