The Operations Support team at Thermo Fisher Scientific (Bedford) is responsible for supporting the manufacturing and testing of chromatography media (large and small scale), and Performance Optimized Polymers and Chemiluminescence synthesis ulations. We are seeking an energetic individual with strong communication, leadership, technical and operational skills to join our dynamic and fast paced team.

Position Summary: The Engineer III will function as a key member of the operations support team. The individual will lead second souring projects, new product scale-up, process optimization, technology transfers and process validation activities. The engineer will develop, implement, and qualify robust, high quality, cost effective processes for manufacturing. Scale-up projects include products for full scale plant production as well kilo scale laboratory products. The engineer will also drive continuous improvement activities and be involved in problem solving projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Quality raw material second sourcing Projects to mitigate raw material risks

  • Interface with various departments and customers to ensure smooth scale-up, technology transfer and validations.

  • Specify, install and troubleshoot process control systems and equipment.

  • Support a variety of new and existing chemical processes by generating process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances, and piping and instrumentation drawings and pre-operations packages including HAZOP’s and risk assessments (FMEA).

  • Drive process improvements through data based decision making.

  • Will work cross functional between Manufacturing and R&D

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher in Chemical Engineering.

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience

  • Understanding or process/equipment validation.

  • Ability to work with numerous departments and levels of employees.

  • Knowledge of quality systems (ISO 9001, 13485 standards).

  • Understanding of statistical tools and statistical process control.

  • Delta V and Six Sigma preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with new raw materials introduction and validating capabilities

  • New product introduction experience

  • Project Management skills

  • SAP Knowledge
