Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., a world-class company in the scientific research and manufacturing industry, is seeking a highly motivated Senior Manager, Manufacturing to join our dynamic team in Austin, TX. As a leader in this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by providing expertise in qPCR and sample prep reagent manufacturing activities for our GSD and BID divisions. You will be responsible for identifying and implementing improvement projects, ensuring compliance with ISO 13485 and USDA regulations, and driving operational excellence.

A Day in the Life:

  • Lead day-to-day manufacturing activities for qPCR and sample prep reagent manufacturing, including capacity planning and budget management.

  • Lead a team of supervisors and scientists, offering guidance and direction to foster a culture of continuous improvement and goal attainment.

  • Support the establishment and enhancement of operational goals and metrics, reviewing outcomes in Quarterly Business Reviews.

  • Serve as a backup and successor for Operations Director in audits, tours, and tier meetings.

  • Seek the highest level of compliance for manufacturing and in-process testing methodologies.

  • Lead efforts to introduce new technology, equipment, methodologies, and validations.

  • Train, mentor, and coordinate operations team members to meet or exceed departmental standards and key performance indicators.

  • Provide manufacturing leadership, guidance, and support throughout the organization, fostering cross-functional collaboration and communication.

  • Drive process improvements using PPI, 5S, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies, working proactively with the team and internal customers to identify and implement opportunities for improvement.

  • Support internal, external, and regulatory inspections, serving as the primary operations manufacturing contact.

  • Meet production, quality, financial, staffing, and EHS goals and objectives, ensuring operational success.

Keys to Success:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, chemistry, engineering, or related field required. Equivalent experience will also be considered. Master's degree is preferred; having a PhD is a plus.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing position within the biological and/or pharmaceutical industry.

  • 7+ years of leadership/management experience in an ISO 13485 or USDA-regulated environment preferred.

  • Six Sigma, supply chain, and project management degrees or certifications, e.g., MBA, CSSBB, CPIM, and PMP, highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of qPCR and sample prep methodologies; knowledge of quality analysis is preferred.

  • Experience with ISO9001, ISO13485, and USDA regulatory requirements preferred.

  • Ability to lead and work cross-functionally with teams.

  • Proven ability to prioritize and lead through complex processes/projects, including new product introductions.

  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate information to employees, top management, and public groups.

  • Familiarity with software and customized programs to meet business needs; experience with SAP and other business software is a plus.
